Kinchkha waterfall (Okatse waterfall)

Five kilometres up the road from the canyon, the Okatse (Kinchkha) waterfall drops off a limestone cliff in three steps. It is a separate protected site, and the easiest add-on to a canyon visit.

Fees, hours and distances checked November 2026.

Illustration. The Okatse (Kinchkha) waterfall falls in three steps from a limestone cliff.

The waterfall is in the gorge of the Okatse River (the Satsiskvilo in the agency’s description), where water falls off the eastern cliff of the Askhi limestone massif. According to the Agency of Protected Areas, it is a cascade in three steps:

  1. The upper drop, about 25 m, on a small right-bank tributary of the river.
  2. The main drop, up to 70 m, on the same stream: the tall white fall in most photographs.
  3. The lower drop, after the stream joins the main river, about 35 m by the agency’s Georgian description (its English page says 20 m).

The site sits at 843 m above sea level, near the village of Kinchkha in Khoni Municipality: noticeably higher than the canyon visitor centre at Gordi, at 520 m.

Getting there

In a straight line the falls are 4.8 km north of the canyon visitor centre. The road climbs through the village, and the last part to the falls is on foot. Navigation apps do not always agree on the final stretch, so follow the local signs or ask at the canyon visitor centre before you drive up.

Tickets and hours

The waterfall is its own natural monument. The agency’s fee pages do not give a waterfall-only price, so confirm it at the canyon visitor centre in Gordi before you drive up. They do list combined tickets that include it (checked November 2026):

The agency’s park portal lists the waterfall as open every day from 10:00, closing at 18:00 in spring and winter and at 19:00 in autumn; its summer line reads 10:00 to 24:00, which is not a usable closing time, so ask at the canyon visitor centre in summer. Check the weather before you go: a wet trail is slippery, and the canyon’s rule of no walking in rain or snow is a sensible guide here too.

Canyon and waterfall in one visit

The two fit comfortably into one day from Kutaisi. A simple order:

  1. Arrive at the canyon visitor centre at opening, 10:00, and walk the canyon route (two to three hours).
  2. Drive 5 km to Kinchkha and walk the 2.1 km trail to the falls and back (about an hour with time at the water).
  3. Return to Kutaisi, 42.9 km from the canyon visitor centre by road.

With a car and an early start you can add Martvili Canyon or Prometheus Cave as well.

What to bring

Shoes with grip for the trail, water, and a layer for the cooler air near the falls. There is a cafe near the waterfall trail; the canyon visitor centre has a cafe and lockers.

Official pages

The waterfall is managed by the same Agency of Protected Areas administration as the canyon. Its park portal page: Okatse (Kinchkha) waterfall on nationalparks.ge.

Questions visitors ask

Are Okatse waterfall and Kinchkha waterfall the same?
Yes. The Agency of Protected Areas calls it the Okatse (Kinchkha) Waterfall Natural Monument: Okatse after the river, Kinchkha after the village below it.
How do I get from Okatse Canyon to Kinchkha waterfall?
The agency gives 5 km and about 15 minutes by road from the canyon visitor centre in Gordi to Kinchkha village, then a 2.1 km marked foot trail, about 25 minutes, to the falls.
How much is the Kinchkha waterfall ticket?
The agency’s fee pages do not list a waterfall-only price, so confirm it at the Okatse Canyon visitor centre. What they do list is a combined canyon and waterfall ticket: 40 GEL for foreign adults, 22 GEL for Georgian citizens and residents with ID (checked November 2026).
How tall is Kinchkha waterfall?
The agency describes three steps: about 25 m, then up to 70 m, then a lower third drop below the confluence with the main river, which its Georgian page puts at about 35 m and its English page at 20 m.
